Jakia Roland is currently a 4th year, majoring in Integrated Language Arts/English Education with a minor in Youth Development from Youngstown, Ohio. Jakia has been involved with the African American Heritage Festival Planning Committee for three years, serving first on a subcommittee for Kick-Off, then as a Co-Chair for Word on the Street, and now as Co-Overall. She has spent her time as a mentor and tutor for students in the community with the Buckeye Civic Engagement Connection. This has aided in fostering her passion for finding promise within the inner city through education. She currently works as a Student Education Support Specialist with the Office of Distance Education & eLearning. Upon graduation, Jakia plans to begin her career in the classroom as an educator with hopes of impacting the youth.
