Poetry Slam: Let go, Let Legacy

Thursday, April 5, 2018 -- 6:00 p.m.

Location: Ohio Union Great Hall Meeting Room

The value of a shared story in the black community is something that not only unites us more strongly as an entire community, but exudes and communicates the incredibly diverse experiences of Black and African people. Focused on one of the most common forms of written/oral Black expression – spoken word, and performance poetry, we cordially invite you to the African American Heritage Festival’s 40th Poetry Showcase. As one of the most anticipated events of the festival, we encourage the celebration and reverence of stories, during which our poets will be challenged to express their work around the overall theme of this year’s festival— Urithi, or Inheritance. Through the visceral power of words, we welcome you this year to enter the space of vulnerability and explore the meaning urithi holds for you; to explore what it means to live your life and leave your legacy.
