The Art of Black Wall Street: Honoring the Essence of Black Creativity and Ambition

The special initiatives and outreach committee presents an event centered around Black Wall Street. This event is an homage to the creativity and wealth developed during this era. To coincide with The 2024 Black History Month theme of The Arts. This expo-style event will highlight student organizations and exhibitions of black artists and groups across campus.

Red Table Talk: A Seat at the Table. A dinner and discussion with topic experts about various issues in the black community. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from each other and reflect on progress in the black community.

Savor The Flavor. Enjoy cuisine from different cultures around the world. Understand and sample African culinary influence. Taste throughout time how the use and sharing of different ingredients originating from Africa have progressed.

Fest on the Block

Battle of the Decades. Experience the progression of black culture's contribution to music. Dj and rap battles, performances, prizes, games, food, and more will be provided.

GOSPEL FEST

Date: 4/7/2024

Location: Lincoln Theater

The African American Heritage Festival has always been a celebration of the culture while promoting unification through shared experiences. Gospel Fest is a space where people from The Ohio State University and Columbus community can come and worship the lord through song, dance, and even mime ministry and/or other acts.

Gospel Fest is a highly anticipated event that highlights the genre originated by the Black community. Dating back to the 17th century, gospel music continues to shape our culture. Gospel Fest will promote a joyful, loving, and inclusive spiritual rejuvenation for all ages!

OSU READS

Date: 4/12/2024

Location: Not open to the public

OSU Reads is an entire day dedicated to highlighting reading and literacy for Columbus City School children. We have the honor of collaborating with students who will participate in various activities during the day surrounding our 46th OSU Reads theme.

A group of second and third-grade students will experience Ohio State’s campus and culture, while also integrating educational experiences throughout the day. They will have an opportunity to team-build with their classmates through group activities, learn what "Progress" means, and gain an understanding of the importance of literacy and accessibility to books. In addition, they will receive their very own book as a memento of the event.

MAHOGANY MOMENTS

Date: 4/13/2024

Location: Performance Hall in the Ohio Union

Mahogany Moments is a semi-formal/formal gala at the end of the Heritage Festival, with a theme of "Rhythm of the Renaissance." During the event, there will be art, music, food, and celebration around the theme of the fest which is Progress. The Mahogany Moments Chair and subcommittee will present the awards for undergraduates, graduate, and Black student organizations on campus. The ceremony is followed by dancing and fellowship.
